Become an Oakland County Preschool Partner

This child is ready for you.  There are thousands of preschoolers in Oakland County that are looking for preschool.

The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan's state-funded preschool program for four-year-old children.

Oakland Schools is seeking new GSRP Partners for the school year 2024-2025. Funding opportunities available for programs that start a class by January 2025:

Preschool Matters.

Research on preschool programs and specific research on GSRP indicates that children provided with a high-quality preschool experience show significant positive developmental differences when compared to children from the same backgrounds who did not attend a high-quality preschool program.

The program is administered by the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential.  Funding is allocated to each intermediate school district (ISD) to administer the program locally. Oakland Schools is an ISD receiving funds and partners with programs to offer GSRP to the community.

At Oakland Schools, we currently offer GSRP through all 28 school districts, 4 Public School Academies and 24 community based organizations (non profit organizations and licensed child care centers), serving about 3,000 preschoolers and their families. Oakland GSRP Sites

We couldn’t do it without our wonderful GSRP Partners!

In addition, there are more preschoolers and families in our community that could benefit from the GSRP experience.

  • About 3,000 children were enrolled in the 2023-2024 school year.
  • We have a goal to serve 1,900 more children in the 24-25 school year, so that a total of 4,900 children are served.

We are looking for new partners to help us serve more families. Connect with us today to start or continue a conversation for collaboration.

Why GSRP?

Why GSRP?

I am the owner of The Joyful Jungle Christian Learning Center. Our Madison Heights location joined GSRP in January of 2022. We had considered applying many times, however, would stop due to the apprehension of the amount of paperwork it would create in the application process. Honestly, It was much easier than anticipated and now when I look back, I wish we would have taken the chance much sooner...

Being a GSRP partner has opened many doors... I am able to give many more students wonderful learning opportunities, materials and experiences. I am also able to provide many benefits for my GSRP teachers. The (mentors) help to keep us on track and are always quickly available to answer questions and provide support. I love having the partner meetings, as well as monthly check in meetings...
