The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan's state-funded PreK program for four-year-old children.
Oakland Schools is expanding GSRP for the 2026 to 2027 school year to give more eligible four year olds in Oakland County access to high quality prekindergarten. This effort supports Michigan’s PreK for All initiative and helps children start kindergarten confident and ready to learn.
By working with community-based organizations, child care centers, and public school academies, Oakland Schools is increasing early learning opportunities in local communities and helping families find programs that meet their needs.
PreK for All

-Provides more continuity of care for children as they may stay in one place for all education and care needs.
-Provides convenience of one drop off/pick up for the parent with multiple children enrolled at the site.
-Receive high-quality PreK with no out-of-pocket costs, saving more than $10,000 per year...
What is GSRP?
+
-GSRP is for children who are four years old on or before December 1, 2025 for the school year 2025-2026. Current income eligibility us about $150,000 for a family of four, but there are also spots for over income families. After May 1, any family regardless of income can enroll if space is available.
-All classrooms use a state approved curriculum, and comprehensive child assessment tool.
-Each classroom has a lead and associate teacher who meet credentials specified in the State School Aid Act. Programs can partner with Oakland Schools to develop a plan for their teachers to attain credentials within three years of being hired.
-Parents have opportunities to be involved in the program in multiple ways and are not required to do so. Programs offer home visits, family conferences and family participation group activities throughout the school year.
-Part- and school- day options are 4-days per week and 120 days per year. Part-and extended- day options are 5-days per week and 180 days per year.
-Programs can choose to offer before and after school programming and Friday care for a fee.
